What is a STEP file?
The STEP CAD file format which have a .step or .stp file extension, are a data exchange format applied in the computer aided design (CAD) industry. It is primarily used to transfer real-world mechanical and architecture designs between different CAD software tools like SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor, and PTC Creo.
To provide a seamless experience, as a part of our import process your models scale will automatically be adjusted to fit the scene in JigSpace if they do not have any scale-properties, and any inverted normal’s will be corrected.
If your STEP files have scale properties, they will be applied in JigSpace at a 1:1 real world scale when viewed in augmented reality.
Import a step file
Importing your own STEP file is the same process as importing any other 3D model or CAD file.
- Open your Jig presentation in edit mode, or create a new Jig
- Click Add content menu
- Select Import CAD file
- Locate and select your .STEP or .STP file
- Click open
Your STEP file will then be uploaded, compressed, and standardized to work in the JigSpace editor.
